This is the first time our entire family was going to be at "the camp." This camp has been a part of our family since the early seventies, when my dad, his brothers, and their assorted sons and cousins built it.
It's gone through some renovations since then, but you'll see that in a moment.
First, some of the stops along the way.
This is a view from "Yes, we're almost there!" Which is just outside Marlinton, WV and very near to Devils Backbone.
Devil's Backbone is named such because it looks like a gigantic backbone, and the forest grows right up to it's edge, allowing for animals to plunge over it's highest point and killing them. The Devil you say! We couldn't find any carcasses. Either the scavengers got them or the animals have learned. Or they're all dead.
Becki and Sarah ascending the
steep and treacherous path to meet with the rest of us.

Oh yeah! We're up high!
And of course, what's a camping trip without a swimming hole.
. . . a couple of mermaids (no wise cracks) . . .
. . . a school of fish . . .
. . . the swimming hole diving board . . .
. . . and . . . yes, there's the monkeys and the strategically placed child!
And this is the 2007 version of the "THE CAMP!"
What a great time we had.
The old camp had changed quite a bit. Three gigantic bedrooms, three bathrooms, (indoor !) with a shower and clawfoot tubs. There is TV, internet, running water, a kitchen larger than the one we have at home and a deck that goes all the way around on upper AND ground floors. Wow!
Oh, and did I mention that there is a wood fired hot tub!
We took hikes, looked for snakes, watched 30 plus humming birds, saw stars so big and bright they looked like they were going to bump into the tree tops and we fell asleep exhausted at night. It was truly a memorable trip.
Instead of driving straight home, we had planned to spend a night camping at Seneca Rocks. We hiked the trail . . .
. . . observed from the deck . . .
. . . and summited the mountain!
The View From The Top
And you simply can't drive past Coopers Rocks in Morgantown without stopping at the overlook.
We topped it off with a quick bite and a few photos.
Come on kids, it's time to go home . . .
